(Sports Network) - A pair of last-place teams get together for an interconference showdown tonight at the Scottrade Center, where the Ottawa Senators start up a three-game road trip by taking on the St. Louis Blues.
St. Louis currently sits at the bottom of the Western Conference standings with 42 points, three more than the Senators, who are taking up the rear in the Northeast Division.
The Blues will be entering tonight's clash on a bit of a roll, having won consecutive road tests in Boston and Chicago prior to the All-Star break. St. Louis was last in action on January 21, when the club recorded a 2-0 victory over the Blackhawks behind a 21-save effort from goaltender Chris Mason.
Mason posted his second shutout of the season for the Blues, who went 3-0-1 in their final four games before the layoff, while Jeff Woywitka and Keith Tkachuk had the team's two goals.
Ottawa also entered the All-Star break with a 3-0-1 mark over its final four games, but the Sens returned from the hiatus to fall to New Jersey at home on Tuesday.
In the 4-1 setback to the Devils, Alexandre Picard netted the lone Senators goal and netminder Brian Elliott allowed four goals on 27 shots.
Ottawa will also face Columbus and Washington on its three-game trek and will attempt to improve on a horrid road record for the season. The Senators are just 5-14-3 away from home in 2008-09 and have been outscored by a 71-45 margin in those games.
The Senators have won their last three encounters with the Blues, however, including a 3-2 decision in Ottawa last season. This will be the Sens' first appearance in St. Louis since a 4-2 victory on March 20, 2007.
St. Louis is 11-9-3 at home so far this season.
