A somewhat bizarre chain of events occurred Saturday night involving New York Islanders' forward Bill Guerin. Guerin was pulled from the team's lineup after the warmup, just prior to the game against the Buffalo Sabres.
According to a source, Guerin is not hurt and there is a strong belief he was taken off the ice and out of New York's lineup in order to wait for a trade.
The forward was still waiting on word from the Islanders on Sunday morning.
Guerin, who would be an unrestricted free agent on July 1, has a no-move clause and sources close to the veteran forward say he has not yet been asked to waive it.
According to www.islanderspointblank.com, sources say the Islanders have a deal in principle to send Guerin 'to an Eastern team' which would be finalized on Sunday. The report indicates the Islanders would receive an early-round draft pick in return.
Sources tell TSN that Guerin has been told he likely will not learn which team has expressed interest until the morning, as the Islanders work on finalizing a deal. However, if a deal is in the works, the Boston Bruins are not involved in the trade.
A trade cannot go through without Guerin's consent.
