One of the more prominent names on the trade block is officially off-limits, as the Anaheim Ducks have taken defenceman Chris Pronger off the market.

Pronger, 34, is in his third season with the Ducks and helped lead the team to its first-ever Stanley Cup championship in 2007. He served as captain in the 2007-08 campaign.

The star blueliner has one year remaining on a five-year, $31.25 million contract.

A 15-year NHL veteran, Pronger was selected second overall by the Hartford Whalers in the 1993 NHL Draft. The team traded him to St. Louis in 1995, where he quickly developed into one of the league's top defencemen. He led the NHL in plus-minus (+47) in 1998, and enjoyed a career season in 2000 by capturing both the Norris and Hart Trophy.

In 2005, Pronger was traded to Edmonton and helped lead the Oilers to the Stanley Cup Final, where they lost to the Carolina Hurricanes. He requested a trade after just one season with the Oilers and was sent to Anaheim for for Joffrey Lupul, Ladislav Smid and three draft picks.
