Oilers sign first round pick Alex Plante

The Edmonton Oilers signed 2007 first round draft pick Alex Plante to an entry level contract on Thursday.

The Calgary Hitmen defenceman, who was drafted 15th overall, will collect an averge of $1.075 million per season over the three-year deal.

Last season, Plante scored eight goals and added 37 assists for 45 points and 157 penalty minutes in 68 games.

In the playoffs, the Brandon, Manitoba native scored six goals and added nine assists for 15 points in 18 games.
