Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - The Florida Panthers have signed center Jeff Taffe to a two-year contract, the club announced Monday.

Taffe, 28, played in only eight games for the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins last season, registering two assists. He spent most of the season with the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and posted 25 goals and 50 assists in 74 games.

"Jeff is a focused, driven and hard working player who we are very pleased to have join our organization," said Panthers assistant general manager Randy Sexton. "He posted career best numbers last season while playing for Wilkes- Barre, but has also shown that he can play in the National Hockey League. We expect him to compete for a position on our team in training camp."

Taffe has played in 153 NHL games over six seasons with Pittsburgh, Phoenix and the New York Rangers, notching 20 goals and 22 assists.
