Red Wings sign defenceman Janik to one-year contract

The Detroit Red Wings signed veteran defenceman Doug Janik to a one-year, two-way contract on Wednesday, the team announced.

The 29-year-old played 13 games for the Dallas Stars and two games for the Montreal Canadiens last season, finishing with one assist and four penalty minutes.

The native of Agawam, Massachusetts has three goals, 13 assists and 123 penalty minutes in 161 career NHL games. He has played for the Buffalo Sabres, Tampa Bay Lightning, Stars and Canadiens.

Janik was originally selected by the Sabres in the second round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
