Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - The Pittsburgh Penguins signed Jay McKee to a one-year contract on Friday.

The veteran rearguard recently had the final year of a four-year pact bought out by St. Louis.

"Jay is a strong defensive defenseman who will bring additional experience to our lineup," said Penguins general manager Ray Shero. "He has great size and is an outstanding shot-blocker, and his veteran presence will help in the continued development of our young defensemen."

The 6-foot-4 McKee posted one goal and eight points in 69 games for the Blues last season.

In 740 NHL games, the Ontario native, who was taken 14th overall by the Sabres in the 1995 draft, has posted 20 goals, 115 points and 568 penalty minutes with Buffalo and St. Louis.
