The Washington Capitals will have their biggest blueline presence back for next season. The club signed restricted free agent defenceman Jeff Schultz to a qualifying offer on Wednesday.

The 6'6", 221 lb. native of Calgary, Alberta will return for his fourth season with the Capitals. He appeared in 64 games last year, and tallied one goal and 11 assists. He missed 17 games with a broken finger, and 13 more games during the playoffs with an upper body injury.

The Capitals had first extended the qualifying offer to Schultz on June 29, but the player chose to explore his restricted free agency options on July 1.
