The Carolina Hurricanes have bought out the final year of defenceman Frantisek Kaberle's contract.

The 35-year old Kaberle was set to earn $2.2 million this season but will collect two-thirds of that ($1,467,400) spread over the next two seasons.

"This move is part of our effort to restructure the Hurricanes' defense to become bigger and more physical," said Hurricanes' general manager Jim Rutherford in a statement. "We thank Frank for his contributions to the Hurricanes, especially the game-winning goal in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final in 2006."

The Kladno, Czech Republic native had one goal and seven assists in 30 games with the 'Canes last season.  In 523 career games he has 29 goals and 164 assists and helped Caroliina capture their first Stanley Cup in 2006.

Kaberle was originally selected in the third round, 76th overall by the Los Angeles Kings in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
