St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - The St. Louis Blues signed veteran defenseman Darryl Sydor to a one-year contract on Friday.

A 17-year veteran of the NHL, Sydor began last season with Pittsburgh and finished the campaign with Dallas. In 73 games he had three goals and 12 assists.

"Darryl Sydor is a true professional in our game," said St. Louis general manager John Davidson. "He's a proven winner who brings valuable leadership to our blueline and will be a positive mentor for our younger defensemen."

In addition to Dallas and Pittsburgh, he has also played for Los Angeles, Columbus and Tampa Bay. In 1,244 games he has 98 goals and 401 assists. He won a Stanley Cup with Dallas in 1999 and Tampa Bay in 2004.
