Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Detroit Red Wings forward Valtteri Filppula suffered a broken wrist in Thursday's 6-5 shootout loss to Edmonton and will miss the next 6-to-8 weeks.

The left-handed Finn has two goals and four assists in 11 games this season. He posted a career high in points (40) and assists (28) last season while adding 12 goals.

The 25-year-old proved to be a key contributor in the postseason as well, producing three goals and 13 helpers over 23 games in Detroit's run to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Filppula, who was a third-round pick in the 2002 draft, has picked up 43 goals and 57 assists in 246 career regular-season games, all with the Red Wings. He has 11 goals and 32 points in 63 playoff games.
