TORONTO -- Toronto defenceman Tomas Kaberle is the NHL's first star of the week despite his team's struggles out of the gate this season.

Kaberle led the NHL in scoring last week with 12 points (two goals, 10 assists) in four road games. He registered a career-high five points (1-4) in a 6-3 victory over the Anaheim Ducks Oct. 26.

Kaberle leads all NHL defencemen in scoring with two goals and 15 assists but the Maple Leafs are last in the league with a 1-7-4 record.

Nashville goalie Pekka Rinne was named the second star after posting a 3-0-0 record with a 0.76 goals-against average, .968 save percentage and one shutout last week.

Fellow netminder Evgeni Nabokov earned third star honours after posting a 3-0-0 record with a 0.97 goals-against average and .963 save percentage as the Sharks extended their winning streak to five games.

Meanwhile, Colorado Avalanche goalie Craig Anderson was named the first star of the month after lifting his team to first place in the Western Conference in October.

His 10 wins tied an NHL record for goaltender victories in October set by Detroit's Manny Legace in 2005. Anderson also led the league in save percentage (.939) and ranked third in goals-against average (2.04).

Capitals star Alex Ovechkin earned second star honours after leading the league in goals (14) and points (23) as the Capitals went 8-2-3 in October.

Ilya Bryzgalov of the Phoenix Coyotes was the third star of the month after posting an 8-3-0 record with a 1.78 goals-against average, .930 save percentage and three shutouts.
