Shane O'Brien and Dane Byers have been suspended for one game each as a result of Tuesday night's brouhaha between the Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers.

Canucks' defenceman O'Brien was suspended for making contact with Sean Avery with his stick while both players were on the bench. O'Brien gave Avery a poke and Avery grabbed the stick out of O'Brien's hand.

For the Rangers, forward Dane Byers was automatically suspended for one game, and head coach John Tortorella was fined $10,000.

Byers was originally assessed an instigator penalty in a fight with Vancouver's Tanner Glass in the final five minutes of the game (18:50 of the third period) and will miss Thursday's game against the Edmonton Oilers.

Byers will forfeit $2,590.67 due to the suspension, money that will go to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.  The NHL Foundation will receive the money from Tortorella's fine.
