The Edmonton Oilers will be without the services of forward Shawn Horcoff for the next 7-10 days after he suffered a left shoulder injury in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Islanders.
Horcoff was hit hard by six-foot-six defenceman Andy Sutton in the third period of the contest and skated to the bench in discomfort. He wasn't on the ice in the dying stages when the Oilers pulled their goalie and were taking faceoffs in the Islanders end.
"It just needs to be rested and it will heal sooner rather than real later, but it's going to take a little bit," Horcoff told The Canadian Press.
"It's been tough on guys lately. Our team has gone through a lot, whether it's injuries or the flu. We've been decimated in this locker room, but all teams go through it."
The loss of Horcoff comes after a stretch in which the Oilers played without Mike Comrie, Gilbert Brule, Ales Hemsky, Sheldon Souray, Steve Staios, Ryan Stone and Fernando Pisani because of injuries.
Horcoff has two goals and three assists with a minus- 6 rating in 15 games this season and leads Oilers forwards with 19:43 of average ice time per game.
