It appears the Calgary Flames aren't the only professional sports team that has been vaccinated for the H1N1 virus.
Some players and staff of the NHL's Maple Leafs and NBA's Raptors have received the vaccination but both teams stressed they were following proper protocol.
Raptors' spokesperson Jim LaBumbard released a statement on Wednesday explaining the position of both the Raptors and Maple Leafs.
"Our medical staffs have followed the protocols and recommendations established by Public Health officials regarding both the seasonal and H1N1 flu vaccinations," said LaBumbard in an e-mail. "Similar to other physician offices, any vaccine supplies received were obtained through normal distribution and no preferential treatment was requested nor received."
"We are operating with a heightened awareness of influenza and taking appropriate precautions. While all professional athletes are considered high risk to exposure and transmission of the flu due to excessive contact with other players, heavy travel requirements and public exposure, only certain players and staff have received the H1N1 vaccine. Consistent with other medical information or cases, this information is considered private and confidential."
Earlier this week, it was discovered the Calgary Flames had been vaccinated while only those in the high-risk category were allowed to receive their shots. A senior staff member of Alberta Health Services was terminated as a result.
