With a possible injury to another defeceman on Thursday night, the Montreal Canadiens have used the waiver wire to fill a hole.
The Canadiens claimed 30-year-old defenceman Jay Leach off of re-entry waivers on Friday from the New Jersey Devils.
In 12 games with the AHL's Lowell Devils, Leach has recorded three assists and 10 penalty minutes in 12 games.
Jaroslav Spacek finished the game against the Bruins on Thursday night despite an undisclosed injury, and while he practiced on Friday, the addition of Leach should help a Canadiens' team that is already without Andrei Markov, Ryan O'Byrne and Hal Gill on the blueline.
