Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Mike Komisarek will miss the next three weeks with a small tear in his quadricep muscle.

The 27-year-old was injured in a collision with Todd Bertuzzi during Saturday's win over the Detroit Red Wings. Komisarek left that game and logged limited ice time in the Leafs' next match-up against the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday, leaving early in the first period.

He will not travel with the team for Friday's game in Chicago.

Toronto has called up defenceman Carl Gunnarsson from the AHL's Toronto Marlies as a replacement.

"He was good at training camp, we were deep at defence and now he's going to get his opportunity," head coach Ron Wilson said of Gunnarsson.

Toronto also sent forward Jay Rosehill down to the Marlies.

Komisarek signed a US $22.5-million, five-year deal with the Leafs in the off-season after spending four seasons with the Montreal Canadiens.

In 16 games so far this season, he has no goals, no assists and is a minus-9.
