While it's a third straight week for the San Jose Sharks on top of the TSN.ca NHL Power Rankings, there are more changes throughout, with the Philadelphia Flyers and Buffalo Sabres each moving up a spot in runner-up status.
A fading power play, combined with Saturday night's drubbing by Vancouver, dropped the Colorado Avalanche, while it wasn't an ideal week for the Canucks either and they fell out of the Top Ten as their record slipped to 11-10 overall.
Pittsburgh and Phoenix have both been under siege with injuries on the blueline, dropping them both to the second half of the rankings. While the Coyotes might be more comfortable on that page, the Penguins are obviously there based on missing four top defencemen.
Columbus was hammered by the Red Wings, 9-1, last Wednesday and that blowout result helped the Red Wings vault up to 11th, while the Blue Jackets dropped to 20th spot. Detroit appears to be getting over their playoff hangover, going 6-1-1 in the last eight games, despite dealing with a number of injuries. Of course, if the Wings' goaltending becomes more consistent, they'll easily climb higher.
The Atlanta Thrashers and Nashville Predators were two of the other big movers, with the Thrashers winning four in a row and getting Ilya Kovalchuk back from injury, while the Predators have won six of eight and got leading scorer J.P. Dumont, as well as number on rearguard Shea Weber, back in the lineup.
Not surprisingly, the Carolina Hurricanes hold up the bottom portion of the rankings, propping up the Toronto Maple Leafs, who are in 29th spot.
The Calgary Flames continue to ride the hot goaltending of Miikka Kiprusoff to the top ranking among Canadian teams, fifth.
