(Sports Network) - The Vancouver Canucks will aim for their fourth win in five games when they host the Edmonton Oilers in tonight's Northwest Division battle at General Motors Place.
The Canucks posted a 4-1 victory over visiting Los Angeles on Thursday to rebound from last Sunday's 1-0 home loss to Chicago. Even with the shutout loss to the Blackhawks, Vancouver has scored 17 times over its last four games.
Henrik Sedin tallied the go-ahead goal early in the final period as Vancouver scored three times in the third period to defeat the Kings at GM Place. Sedin also had an assist for the Canucks.
Alexandre Burrows and Kyle Wellwood each had a goal and an assist and Roberto Luongo made 31 saves.
Vancouver has won four of its last five at GM Place and is 9-3-0 as the host this season. The Canucks will close out a five-game homestand Sunday against San Jose.
The Oilers have lost two straight and three of their last four games and are coming off Friday's home shootout loss to San Jose. Joe Pavelski notched the winner in the shootout and Patrick Marleau recorded his first hat trick of the season as the Sharks clipped Edmonton, 5-4, at Rexall Place.
Pavelski closed out the second round with a sharp wrister inside the left post. Edmonton's Dustin Penner could have kept the session going but Evgeni Nabokov came up with a sliding glove save to end the contest.
Ryan Potulny posted a pair of goals for the Oilers. Penner and Gilbert Brule contributed a goal and assist each while Jeff Deslauriers stopped 27 shots in defeat.
The Oilers also learned prior to Friday's game that forward Ales Hemsky will undergo surgery to repair his left shoulder and he'll miss the remainder of the season as a result. Hemsky is second on the team with 22 points on seven goals and 15 assists this season.
Tonight marks the start of a season-long, six-game road trip for the Oilers, who have a dreadful 2-7-2 record as the guest this year. Edmonton has dropped four straight and nine of its last 10 on the road.
Edmonton and the Canucks have split two meetings so far this season, with each club earning a win on home ice. Luongo posted a shutout in a 2-0 win for the Canucks this last time the teams met on October 25. The clubs have split the last eight meetings overall, but the Oilers have lost four of the last six encounters in Vancouver.
