Montreal Canadiens forward Andrei Kostitsyn underwent left knee surgery on Friday and will miss six weeks of action.

Kostitsyn, who has missed three games with what was billed as a "lower body injury", was hit by Keith Ballard during a game against the Florida Panthers on Dec. 31.

In 40 games this season, the 24-year old has 12 goals and 13 assists. He was selected to play on Team Belarus for the Vancouver Olympics, but his availability for the tournament is now in question.

In the meantime, Sergei Kostitsyn is expected to miss at least the next two games with a left ankle injury. He has not played since Dec. 30 against Tampa Bay.
