Peter Forsberg's Olympic participation may be in jeopardy.
The two-time Stanley Cup champion, who was named to the Swedish Olympic team last month suffered a setback this week in his rehab for injured ribs.
Forsberg, who has been playing for Modo of the Swedish Elite League, was expected to make a comeback on Thursday against Farjestad, however he left the ice half-way through Wednesday's training session.
The team issued a statement saying that the 2003 Hart Trophy winner will not be playing this week or next.
Under this timeline, Forsberg would not return to Modo's lineup until January 25th at the earliest, meaning that he would have only six games before the Olympics got underway. He has also battled chronic foot injuries throughout his career.
Forsberg twice helped lead Sweden to gold at the Olympics, in 1994 and in 2006.
He has not played in the NHL since the 2007-08 season where he had one goal and 13 assists in nine games with the Colorado Avalanche. In 10 games with Modo this season, the 1995 Calder Trophy winner has eight goals and seven assists.
