The San Jose Sharks have traded forward Jody Shelley to the New York Rangers in exchange for a conditional sixth round draft pick in 2011.

If the Rangers choose to re-sign Shelley, the pick will become a fifth rounder.

The 34-year-old Shelley racked up 78 penalty minutes in 36 games for the Sharks this season, while adding three assists. In 517 NHL games, Shelley had 43 points and 1310 penalty minutes.

The Sharks acquired the eight-year NHL veteran in January of 2008 from the Columbus Blue Jackets for a sixth round pick.
