OTTAWA - Ottawa forward Jonathan Cheechoo has been re-assigned to the club's AHL affiliate in Binghamton, the clubs announced Saturday.

The moves comes a day after Cheechoo was placed on waivers to make room for newly-acquired forward Matt Cullen, clearing room under the team's salary cap.

Cullen came over to Ottawa on Friday from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for defenceman Alexandre Picard and a second round pick in this year's draft.

Cheechoo, who was acquired from the Sharks last summer as part of the Dany Heatley deal, had just five goals and nine assists in 61 games.

The 29-year-old was San Jose's second-round pick -- 29th overall --in 1998. His best season came in 2005-06 when he scored 56 goals and 37 assists.
