The Ottawa Senators have acquired defenceman Andy Sutton from the New York Islanders for a second-round draft pick.
The pick is San Jose's that Ottawa acquired in the Dany Heatley trade.
"It's an unbelievable opportunity," Sutton told the Canadian Press. "Being an older player and getting a chance to play on such a great team and have a chance to win the Stanley Cup is a dream come true."
Sutton led the Islanders in hits and blocked shots. He has the second most blocked shots in the league with 153.
"We wanted to get a little more depth on the blue line and I think Andy fits that need," said Senators GM Bryan Murray. "I wanted somebody I could look up to, and I have to do that. He is a good guy, he's excited about coming here, he's going to come in and, I think, fit nicely into the group."
Murray said things could be quiet now for the Sens in terms of trades, but added that nothing is for sure.
"It doesn't appear there's much more going to happen but who knows at the end of the day what might stick its head and maybe be available?" Murray said.
In 54 games this season, Sutton has recorded four goals and eight assists with 73 penalty minutes.
In 567 career games, the 34-year old has 34 goals and 101 assists.
