The Carolina Hurricanes have traded defenceman Joe Corvo to the Washington Capitals in exchange for Brian Pothier, Oskar Osala and a second round draft pick.
Corvo returned to the ice in late January after missing two months recovering from a horrible skate cut to his calf. In 33 games played this season, Corvo has four goals and eight assists with a minus -8 rating.
The 32-year old native of Oak Park, IL, put up quality offensive numbers from the blue line last season with 14 goals and 24 assists.
Drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the 4th round (83rd overall) in 1997, Corvo signed with the Ottawa Senators as an unrestricted free agent in July 2006, where he reached the Stanley Cup Finals.
He, along with Patrick Eaves, was traded to the Hurricanes for Corey Stillman and Mike Commodore in February 2008.
In 467 NHL games, Corvo has 66 goals, 146 assists and a plus -41 rating.
Meanwhile the 32-year old Pothier has four goals and seven assists in 41 games this season with the Caps. He missed 11 games earlier in the season due to a rib injury.
Osala has yet to play a game in the NHL after being chosen by the Capitals in the fourth round, 97th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
