NEW YORK -- Colorado Avalanche right-winger Chris Stewart is the NHL's first star of the week after recording five goals and four assists in four games.

Tampa Bay Lightning centre Steven Stamkos is the second star while Florida Panthers defenceman Bryan McCabe bagged third star honours.

Stewart led all NHL scorers last week with nine points to help the Avalanche (37-22-6) close the week two points behind the first-place Vancouver in the Northwest Division title race.

On Saturday, he recorded first NHL hat trick and added an assist in a 7-3 win over St. Louis.

Stamkos scored five times in three games last week, extending the NHL's longest active point streak to 16 games.

McCabe led NHL defencemen with eight points (one goal, seven assists) in three games.
