The Montreal Canadiens will be without Glen Metropolit for six to eight weeks as the forward recovers from a shoulder injury.

The 35-year-old was injured Saturday after a clean open ice hit against the New Jersey Devils.

Head coach Jacques Martin told reporters Metropolit will have tests later this week to determine the extent of the damage.

According to the Montreal Gazette, Metropolit will attempt to shorten his rehabilitation time with aggressive treatment.

Metropolit has 16 goals and 13 assists over his 69 games this season. He leads the team with 10 powerplay goals.

He will become a free agent at the end of the season.
