Goaltender Jonas Gustavsson has signed a two-year contract extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The 25-year-old Danderyd, Sweden native will earn an average of $1.35 million per season.

''We are extremely pleased to have signed Jonas to a new two year deal,'' president and general manager Brian Burke said. ''He made very good progress as the season went along and we are really looking forward to seeing him reach his full potential with us.''

Nicknamed The Monster, Gustavsson overcame two heart ablation procedures in the Fall and a five-game absence due to a groin injury (5 games) in October to earn the team's nomination for the Bill Masterton Trophy  awarded for 'perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey'.

He was named to Team Sweden for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and later posted a win in his lone start at the tournament in Vancouver.

Gustavsson played 42 games this season with the Maple Leafs, posting a 16-15-9 record, 2.87 goals-against average and .902 save percentage.
