The Ottawa Senators traded their first round pick (16th overall) to the St. Louis Blues on Friday in exchange for 19-year old defenceman David Rundblad.
St. Louis then selected Russian left winger Vladimir Tarasenko with the pick.
Rundblad was the Blues' first-round pick in 2009 (17th overall). He played last season for Skelleftea in the Swedish Elite League, where he scored one goal and 12 assists in 47 games.
The blueliner also played for Sweden at the World Junior Hockey Championship and had one goal and four assists in six games.
The 6'2", 189 lb defenceman signed a three-year entry level contract with the Blues on June 10. He has yet to make his NHL debut.
"We like him a lot, and think he has a great head for the game. He solidifies our blue line with young people going forward," Senators general manager Bryan Murray told TSN immediately after he traded for Rundblad.
Tarasenko had 13 goals and 11 assists in 42 games last season with Novosibirsk of the KHL. The 18-year old had four goals in six games last year for Russia at the World Juniors.
