LOS ANGELES -- The Montreal Canadiens traded up in Friday's NHL draft to select defenceman Jarred Tinordi with the 22nd pick.

The Canadiens dealt the 27th and 57th selections to the Phoenix Coyotes for the pick they used on Tinordi. Montreal also got the 113th pick as part of the deal.

The 18-year-old Tinordi captained the U.S National Team Development Program last season, collecting four goals, five assists and 68 penalty minutes in 26 games.

Tinordi, who has committed play at the University of Notre Dame next season, is the son of former NHL defenceman Mark Tinordi.
