Blackhawks make qualifying offer to LW Ladd

With Monday's deadline approaching for NHL teams to extend qualifying offers to restricted free agents, the Chicago Blackhawks extended a $1.65 million qualifying offer to winger Andrew Ladd.

Ladd, however, still has arbitration rights to go seek higher compensation.

Ladd set a career-high in goals last season with 17, while posting 21 assists for 38 points. Drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round (4th overall) in 2004, the Maple Ridge, B.C., native was traded to the Blackhawks for Tuomo Ruutu in 2008.

Restricted free agents that aren't offered a qualifying offer by Monday become unrestricted free agents on July 1.
