The New Jersey Devils kept one of their key players in the fold on Wednesday, signing winger David Clarkson to a three-year contract.
The deal is worth $8 million, with an average annual salary of about $2.67-million.
Clarkson, 26, was set to become a restricted free agent on Thursday and is coming off a 2009-2010 season that was marred by an ankle injury. In 46 games, Clarkson scored 11 goals, 24 points and recorded a plus-3 rating with 85 penalty minutes.
Not drafted following a junior career with the Kitchener Rangers, Clarkson has 40 goals, 82 points and 438 penalty minutes in 216 career games.
