Anaheim Ducks winger Joffrey Lupul is not expected to be ready for the start of the regular season.
According to the Orange County Register, the 26-year old forward has suffered a reoccurrence of a blood infection in his back and has stopped training because of discomfort.
Lupul who will be on antibiotics for the next four weeks will not do any physical activity in that time, and the Ducks said that Lupul won't be ready for the opener, and that there would no timetable announced for his return.
"It's really frustrating," Lupul told the Register. "I haven't played hockey in a long time. I was hoping to be ready on day one of camp. But now my focus has changed. I want to get rid of this. I'm very confident I can get back playing and playing well."
Lupul has been out of action since early December 2009 with a herniated disc in his back, followed by the infection. In 23 games played in the 2009-10 season, Lupul recorded four goals and 10 assists.
The winger will make $4.25 million a year until the end of the 2012-13 season
