It could be a very busy day in the NHL despite no games being played on the ice on North American soil.

Teams have until 3pm et/Noon pt on Wednesday to submit their opening day roster to the league and all teams must be under the league's mandated $59.4 million salary cap at that time.

Currently, teams may be up to 10 percent over the cap as they make their final cuts, but they will be penalized should they remain over the number come Wednesday afternoon.

The Vancouver Canucks, New Jersey Devils, Boston Bruins and Calgary Flames are all over the cap and will may be forced to make a deal to shed salary prior to the deadline.

One solution many teams have is placing players on long terms injured reserve. If a player is expected to miss at least 10 games and 24 days due to injury, that player can be listed as a long-term injury (LTI) which would offer teams some relief, however it would be a temporary solution. It would be an option for the likes of defenceman Sami Salo in Vancouver, centre Marc Savard in Boston and blueliner Bryce Salvador in New Jersey.

The Canucks took the first step to shedding some salary earlier on Tuesday when they shipped defenceman Shane O'Brien and minor-league forward Dan Gendur to the Nashville Predators for defenceman Ryan Parent and forward Jonas Andersson.  USA Today is reporting that the Canucks have since waived Parent.

The full list of players placed on waivers on Tuesday is as follows:

Jeff Tambellini (VAN)
Alex Henry and Curtis Sanford (MTL)
David Hale (OTT)
Brett Sutter (CGY)
Ryan Potulny, Jassen Cullimore (CHI)
Andrew Ebbett (PHO)
Andy Hilbert (NYI)
Tim Kennedy, Todd White (NYR)
Alexander Sulzer (NAS)
Michael Blunden,Nate Guenin (CLB)
Ryan Craig, Andrew Hutchinson (PIT)
Kirk Maltby, Derek Meech (DET)
Mathieu Roy (TB)
Drew Bagnall, Matt Kassian (MIN)
Patrick McNeill, Steve Pinnizotto, Andrew Gordon, Brian Fahey (WAS)
Mark Parrish (BUF)

In addition, a pair of players placed on waivers yesterday were claimed.  The New York Islanders have claimed forward Michael Grabner, while the Tampa Bay Lightning have claimed Mattias Ritola.

No other player was claimed, though there was plenty of speculation on Monday that the Nashville Predators had put in a claim for Los Angeles Kings netminder Erik Ersberg.
