Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - The Buffalo Sabres announced forward Matt Ellis cleared waivers and has been assigned to Portland of the AHL.
The 6-foot, 212-pound left winger set career-bests with 72 games played in the 2009-10 campaign with the Sabres. who re-signed him in August. He tallied three goals and his 10 assists and 13 points were also career highs last season.
Ellis has 13 goals and 20 helpers in 187 career NHL games with Buffalo, Los Angeles and Detroit.
The Sabres, who also assigned goaltender Jhonas Enroth to Portland on Wednesday, open the regular season Friday at Ottawa.
