Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson looks to be facing some extra discipline from the National Hockey League after hitting Buffalo Sabres winger Jason Pominville from behind during the Blackhawks 4-3 win on Monday.
Hjalmarsson is scheduled to have a hearing with NHL disciplinarian, Colin Campbell at 1pm et. The hearing will take place on a conference call.
Hjalmarsson hit Pominville with 5:42 left in the first period. Pominville sustained a concussion and a gash above his eye that required 7-8 stitches. He was diagnosed in the building without going to a hospital.
"Everything happened so fast," Hjalmarsson said after the game. "My intention wasn't to hurt him. You never want to see someone laying on the ice like that."
Hjalmarsson was given a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct on the play.
