The Jeff Finger's stay with the Maple Leafs looks like it could be coming to an end.

The Leafs placed the defenceman on waivers on Tuesday and coach Ron Wilson told the media that if Finger cleared waiver on Wednesday that he would be sent to the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies.

Wilson, also told the media that the club was not burying Finger's $3.5 million salary, and that if someone falters or gets hurt that Finger is still on the club's radar.

"It's not so much just a business move," Wilson told reporters after practice Tuesday. "We've got seven guys better than him right now. That's what it came down to."

The 30-year old is in the third year of the four-year, $14 million contract that he signed with the Leafs in July 2008.
