Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - The Atlanta Thrashers have assigned goaltender Ondrej Pavelec to Chicago of the AHL for conditioning following a fainting spell during the club's season-opener October 8.
Pavelec has not played since October 8, when he collapsed and lost consciousness just 2:25 into the contest against the Washington Capitals.
He lay motionless for several minutes as trainers attended to him and was eventually carted off the ice on a stretcher and taken to a local hospital, where he regained consciousness and was diagnosed with a concussion.
Peter Mannino has been recalled from Chicago to back up goalie Chris Mason until Pavelec returns. Mannino was assigned to Chicago on Monday as the team made the roster adjustment in order to activate Pavelec from injured reserve.
The Thrashers have also recalled defenseman Noah Welch from Chicago.
