(Sports Network) - Tim Thomas continued his superb start to the season in Boston's last outing and the Bruins hope the former Vezina Trophy winner can keep up the good work when they visit the Ottawa Senators tonight at Scotiabank Place.
Thomas's record is 5-0-0 this season and he has astounding puck-stopping numbers to go with that perfect record. The 36-year-old has compiled a .981 save percentage by stopping 153-of-156 shots and his goals-against average is an amazing 0.60.
Thomas recorded his second shutout of the season in his last outing, turning aside all 20 shots in Thursday's 2-0 victory over the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs.
"I can't say enough about the way he's played," Bruins head coach Claude Julien said of Thomas. "They had some shots from the point and he did a great job of not giving up any rebounds."
The terrific start to the year has seemed to give Thomas his No. 1 job back after he lost the starting post to Tuukka Rask last year. Rask is not having a strong sophomore season in limited action this year, going 0-2-0 with a 3.54 GAA and .894 save percentage.
Patrice Bergeron and Tyler Seguin scored the goals in the win over the Leafs, helping Boston win for the fifth time in six games since a season-opening loss to Phoenix in the Czech Republic.
Seguin, the second overall pick in the 2010 draft, now has two goals and two assists in seven games this year. The Bruins also announced Thursday that Seguin will remain with Boston for the rest of the season rather than being sent back to his junior team.
Tonight marks the first of three straight on the road for the Bruins, who have a perfect 3-0 record as the visiting club this year.
The Senators, meanwhile, will try to win a third straight game this evening after securing consecutive victories for the first time this year with Thursday's 5-3 win over visiting Florida. Milan Michalek, Daniel Alfredsson and Mike Fisher each had a goal and an assist to lead the Senators past the Panthers.
"We worked hard enough to win tonight," Alfredsson said.
Zack Smith and Alex Kovalev also tallied for the Senators, who also received 28 saves from Brian Elliot.
The Sens are now 3-2-0 as the host this year and are completing a four-game homestand this evening.
Ottawa is expected to get centerman Jason Spezza back tonight after he missed the last four games with a groin injury. Spezza has one goal and four assists in five games this year.
The Bruins won four of six against the Senators last year and Boston has taken 11 of the last 14 meetings with its Northeast Division rival. The B's have also claimed victory in three straight and six of their last seven trips to Ottawa.
