The Devils 3-8-1 start to the season, may have just gotten worse.

According to the Newark Star-Ledger, forward Zach Parise suffered what the club fears could be a serious knee injury in the Devils 3-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday night.

The paper reports that rather than go with the team to Vancouver, Parise, along with general manager Lou Lamoriello flew back to New Jersey.

Parise, who was hit by Kyle Clifford with 3:40 left in the second period, did not come out of the dressing room for the start of the third period.

"You could tell he was laboring a little in the second," coach John MacLean told teh Star-Ledger. "He's a tough kid. With a player like that you have to be cautious."

If Parise misses an extended period of time, the Devils, who already have the lowest goals for of any team in the league, might need to change their approach.

"We have to look in the mirror and think what we can do better," winger Ilya Kovalchuk said. "We just need to get more traffic in front."
