Unable to catch on with a team in the NHL, Vesa Toskala has found work on the other side of the Atlantic.
Swedish newspaper Expressen is reporting that the former Toronto Maple Leafs and Calgary Flames goaltender has signed a one-month loan deal with AIK of the Swedish Elite League.
According to Expressen, the 33-year-old, who played with the Anaheim Ducks, Leafs and Flames last season, will replace the injured Christopher Heino-Lindberg and serve as the primary backup for starter Viktor Fasth.
"Toskala is looking for a club in the NHL or KHL and needs time to play at as high a level as possible," AIK Sports manager Anders Gozzi told Expressen. "Therefore this is a very good solution for both parties."
The Finnish-born Toskala is expected to arrive in Sweden on Tuesday and could be in the lineup in time for Thursday's game against Djurgarden.
