The Philadelphia Flyers have locked up a big part of their future as they have signed forward Claude Giroux to a three-year contract extension worth $11.25 million.
The 22-year old Giroux is in the final year of his entry level contract that will see him earn $765,000 this season. Under the terms of his new deal, the Hearst, Ontario native will earn $2.75 million in the first year of the extension, $3.5 million in the second and $5 million in the third for an average annual value of $3.75 million.
Giroux has followed up a strong playoff performance that saw him score 10 goals and add 11 assists in 23 games during the Flyers improbable Stanley Cup run with a fast start this season. He has seven goals and seven assists in 15 games.
