The Toronto Maple Leafs will have Dion Phaneuf back in the fold this week - at least for regular practices - as the club informed their captain on Sunday that he will be joining them on their upcoming two-game road trip in Washington and Pittsburgh.
While he won't dress for any games this week, the 25-year-old is still set to return on Dec. 16 when the Leafs visit the Calgary Flames - his first game back since being traded in January.
Phaneuf took part in his first full practice Sunday since cutting his knee on a skate during a game on Nov. 2. He had surgery to repair the damage done when the defenceman got tangled with the Ottawa's Peter Regin.
Phaneuf has four assists in 11 games this season with a minus-6. He was named captain of the Maple Leafs over the summer.
