Kyle Wellwood appears to be on his way back to the NHL.

The St. Louis Blues plan to sign the former Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks forward to a one-year deal once his release from the Kontinental Hockey League in Russia is official.

Wellwood was let go by Atlant Mytishchi last week but there are some remaining issues that need to be cleared up before he can sign with another club, likely later this week.

Once he is officially released, Wellwood must clear waivers before joining the Blues.
