The San Jose Sharks claimed Kyle Wellwood off waivers on Tuesday, one day after the St. Louis Blues signed him to a one-year contract.
The Blues signed him on Monday, and it started a 24-hour period of finger-crossing for Blues GM Doug Armstrong. But Wellwood's stay lasted just the one day.
The Blues suffered a similar fate in December when the placed Marek Svatos on waivers, one day after signing him to a one-year contract. The Nashville Predators claimed him the following day.
The 27-year-old native of Windsor, Ont., scored five goals and three assists in 25 games with the Kontinental Hockey League's (KHL) Mytishchi Atlant this season.
Wellwood has 338 career National Hockey League games under his belt, spending time with the Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Leafs' fifth-round draft pick (134th overall) in the 2001 NHL entry draft has scored 63 career goals and 97 assists.
