UFC boss Dana White may insist that Georges St-Pierre is more famous than Wayne Gretzky but Canadians still rate The Great One over GSP.

A Canadian Press-Harris Decima survey showed Gretzky outdistancing the mixed martial arts champion when respondents were asked to grade their opinion of Canadian celebrities.

Repondents were asked to rate the celebs from one to 10, with 10 being the most favourable.

No. 99 was No. 1.

The national average was a grade of 7.29 for Gretzky, compared to 6.11 for St-Pierre.

The fighter, who ranked seventh out of the 11 Canadians on the survey, still rated higher than Prime Minister Stephen Harper (5.22).

Gretzky led the pack, ahead of fellow hockey star Sidney Crosby (7.24) and environmentalist David Suzuki (7.17).

The poll was conducted Jan. 13-16 with more than 1,000 respondents. It is considered accurate to within plus or minus 3.1 percentage points, 19 times in 20.

White has said repeatedly that GSP is the most famous Canadian athlete ever.

"This dude is a billion times more famous than any other athlete that's ever come out of Canada. Including Wayne Gretzky," he said last year.
