Toronto Maple Leafs forward John Mitchell cleared waivers on Thursday and was sent down to the AHL's Toronto Marlies. In his place, the team recalled defenceman Keith Aulie.

The move means that Aulie will be available for tonight's home game against the New Jersey Devils (TSN, 7pm et/4pm pt).

Head coach Ron Wilson said at morning practice that Aulie would likely spend most of his time paired with blueliner Dion Phaneuf .

In other Leafs news, Wilson announced that Tomas Kaberle will become an alternate captain once again with the departure of Francois Beauchemin. Kaberle had the 'A' on his jersey for several years until this season.

James Reimer will get the start in goal against New Jersey, with J.S. Giguere expected to start Saturday in Montreal.
