The Thrashers have signed defenceman Mark Stuart to a new three-year contract extension worth $5.1 million, keeping the 26-year-old in an Atlanta uniform for the coming years.
Stuart has seen action in four contests with the Thrashers this season after being acquired by team in a trade with Boston on Feb. 18. Prior to arriving in Atlanta, Stuart played 31 games for the Bruins, totaling one goal and four assists with a plus-8 rating and 23 penalty minutes.
In 287 career NHL games with Boston, Stuart has 13 goals and 27 assists and 294 penalty minutes. The 26-year-old is earning US$1.675 million this season.
Drafted by Boston in the first round (21st overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, the Rochester, MN, native spent nearly six seasons with the Bruins before being traded to Atlanta, along with Blake Wheeler, for Boris Valabik and Rich Peverley earlier this month.
