The New York Rangers have acquired centre John Mitchell from the Toronto Maple Leafs for a seventh-round draft pick in 2012.

Mitchell, who cleared waivers earlier this month, has been playing with the AHL's Toronto Marlies. In 10 games in the minors, the Oakville, Ont, native has one goal and four assists. In 23 games with the Maple Leafs this season, Mitchell has two goals and one assist.

Mitchell was drafted by the Maple Leafs in the fifth round (158th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
