Edmonton Oilers centre Sam Gagner will miss the rest of the season after having surgery on a tendon in his hand on Thursday.

Gagner was cut by a teammate's skate during the Oilers' 5-0 loss to the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night.

After having his hand bandaged, Gagner continued playing, but after the game he stayed in Washington to have the injury looked at by a specialist.

This is the second season-ending injury the Oilers have suffered in a week, after rookie Taylor Hall went down with a high left ankle sprain last Friday.

The 21-year-old Gagner had 15 goals and 42 points in 68 games this season.
